Job Summary:

Responsible for design and development of tracked vehicle hull structure from concept development through prototype fabrication and test. The position reports to the chassis systems chief engineer.

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer with a structures background to work for our Sterling Heights, MI office. Requirements

Essential Functions:

  • Participate in the development of combat vehicle chassis structure and mechanical components from derived system level requirements.
  • Coordinate and review subsystem/component performance analysis related to structure systems including as a minimum structural integrity, and structural response.
  • Manage design and development of structure subsystems such as ramps, hatches and access panels working with the structures assigned design staff as well as other multi-disciplinary functions.
  • Prepare and present design development status to management and customers

 

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Coordinate design development including the management of designers assigned to chassis structure development.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (as demonstrated through experience, training and/or testing)

  • Working understanding of vehicle structure design including material typical for combat vehicle applications
  • Understanding of vehicle chassis level structural analysis
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work within CAD based design systems
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn model based systems engineering techniques

 

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering

 

Experience:

  • 5 years of relevant experience working with vehicle chassis system design or closely related systems

 

Background Prerequisites:

  • Must undergo and meet company standards for background check, employment verification, reference checks and controlled substance testing.
  • Must be possess or be capable of obtaining a security clearance

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in developing tracked combat vehicle structures including elements of survivability and manufacturability.

 

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • Primarily office work related. Will require interaction with prototype shop personnel in support of system assembly and test.
  • Will require occasional field work in support of system testing.
  • Will require occasional travel including overseas in support of subsystem development.
