Prioritizing Personal Growth

Written by, Heather Skinner

As a wife, mom of 2 under 3, and working full time – there isn’t much “me” time. I made a choice, at the beginning of 2018, that it was time to schedule out some personal development time for myself. Watching my little girls run around each day, always learning and striving to do something more than they did yesterday, was incredibly inspiring! They want to learn and GROW – and push themselves to do so, completely unconsciously. I realized it was time to adopt their mentality and be better than I was, yesterday. It’s easy to get caught up in everyday life and I had lost focus of myself as I strived to be the best momma I could be to my little ones. I thought that meant that I couldn’t take time to enhance myself and my skills… boy was I wrong!

Personal growth means always asking yourself who you are becoming and how you plan to get there.

I had been talking about studying for my SHRM-SCP for a few years and finally made the choice to go for it. I knew that I had to separate myself to truly indulge in the learning experience. I hopped on a plane and took myself to Virginia to study in a 3-day seminar to prep for my certification exam. I was nervous leaving my family behind, as it was something I had never done. However, I was elated to be taking the time to better myself and my skills to support our future. I knew I had to get comfortable with the uncomfortable!

I am now more confident in my ability to make decisions for myself, our employees, our clients, and our company. I am prepped with the knowledge to continue to be an industry expert and provide more value than expected in all facets.

IMPACT has supported me, not only in this aspiration, but throughout my entire 5.5 year tenure. Whether it was through training programs, books, seminars, etc., anything I have wanted to read, attend or be a part of, I have been encouraged to do so and fully supported. I am proud to be part of a team and culture that focuses so heavily on growth, both personally and professionally.

“Personal growth is an ongoing process of understanding and developing oneself to achieve one’s fullest potential. Personal development is a vital part in a person’s growth, maturity, success and happiness. It is the foundation of emotional, physical, intellectual, and spiritual health.”  – World Minded Team
